Washington State Library's collection of oversized mounted photographs of the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, Washington and Expo '74 in Spokane, Washington, circa 1940-1974, bulk 1940-1950.

This collection consists of 6 oversized black & white photographs and 1 oversized color photograph. One is a b&w photo of the Michigan Corrections Commisson Meeting circa 1941. There are 8 men in the photo and they are identified on the verso. The Director of the Commission is Garrett Heyns, who was appointed the Director of Institutions in Washington State in 1957. There are 2 b&w photographs 10x13 inches mounted to 16x10 inches of the Washington State Capitol grounds. There are 2 b&w photographs 13x10 inches mounted to 20x16 inches taken of the legislative building and areas surrounding it. One of the b&w photos has handwritten on the mount: "Infra Red Film 23 A Filter, Sully." Two of the photographs have "Sully" hand-printed on their mount. One photograph is a 16x20 inches aerial color photograph of what appears to be Expo '74, a world's fair held in Spokane, WA. The photograph was a gift of Donna Hudson, Senator Nancy Buffington's secretary. She gave it to WSL in April 1975.

Created by Public Act 255 of 1937. The commission was responsible for the administration of prisons, prison industries and prisoner parole and probation. Maud P. Mitchell was born about 1883 in Oregon. She married Chas. R. Mitchell and by 1920 they were living in Chehalis, WA. Charles was an assistant cashier at the bank.
